Terms of Service
The short version of the rules for using GarageLayer. Last updated: August 2026.
What GarageLayer is
GarageLayer is a directory and hosting platform for 3D-printable car parts. It does two things:
- Hosts uploads — members share their own 3D-printable car part files (STL, OBJ, 3MF and friends) along with fitment info. Everything a member uploads — files, photos, descriptions, fitment claims, license choice — is that member's content and responsibility, not ours.
- Indexes public listings from other sites (Thingiverse, Printables, MakerWorld, Cults3D) — through our own indexing and links members submit. Indexed entries show a title, summary, thumbnail, and a link out; files stay on the source. Thumbnails pass through a temporary proxy cache, deleted with the listing. Everything about an indexed listing — design, files, license, accuracy — belongs to its source, not to us.
Accounts
- Sign in with an email magic link or Google. Use an email address you actually read.
- One account per person. Don't share accounts or use them to spam.
- Don't impersonate other people, brands, or creators.
- Accounts that repeatedly break these rules can be suspended.
Uploading parts
- Only upload files you have the right to share. By uploading you confirm you own the model or have permission to distribute it under the license you pick — that confirmation is your legal statement, and you are solely responsible if it turns out to be wrong.
- Don't re-upload someone else's work, even with edits, unless their license allows it.
- The license you choose is shown on the part page and travels with the download — don't mislabel it.
- Keep fitment details honest. A bracket that “fits everything” helps nobody.
- No malware, no instructions for illegal modifications, nothing unlawful.
- The same applies when you submit an external link for indexing: only link designs you have the right to share here, and don't misrepresent whose work it is.
Whose content is it
Nearly everything here is user content — uploads, comments, indexed listings — and we don't pre-screen it all before it appears. Uploaders are responsible for following these terms; everyone else can report problems. Acting on a report doesn't make us the author of the content, leaving something up isn't an endorsement, and checking a license before you print, remix, or sell is on you.
Downloads
All parts on GarageLayer are free to download. If a download is broken or a file is wrong, open a support ticket and we'll fix it. Indexed listings link out to their source site.
Copyright & takedowns
Rights holders can report infringing listings through the IP report form. We review every report and hide the listing while it's being looked at. Valid complaints lead to removal; repeat infringers lose upload access. Reporting an indexed listing here does not remove it from the source site — we'll direct you to the original host when needed. Full process: Intellectual Property Policy.
Moderation
We can hide, remove, or correct any listing, comment, or account that breaks these terms or the law — with or without notice. If we got it wrong, tell us via a support ticket.
Availability & changes
GarageLayer is provided as-is. Features change, things go down, and the service may be modified or discontinued. These terms may be updated — the “last updated” date at the top will move when they do.
Disclaimers
- The site is offered without warranty of any kind, express or implied.
- We're not responsible for what members publish — uploaded files, photos, descriptions, fitment claims, comments — or for anything on external sites we index or link to, including their availability, accuracy, safety, or licensing. Use everything here at your own judgment.
- 3D-printed car parts can fail. Verify fitment, materials, and local regulations before installing anything on a real vehicle — you print and install at your own risk.
- Nothing here is legal advice, from us to you.
