
This is a 3D Printed template to help build a press tool that is required to remove the back half of a 981 PDK transmission. A 2D PDF is also included as an alternate, be sure to print 1:1 scale if you use it. I referenced Jeff Richardson's fantastic video showing how to complete this job, linked here: This template can be printed on a Prusa Mini, required bed size is 155 x 155 or larger. Three pins protrude to allow for precise positioning on a 6" x 6" piece of steel bar stock: The holes are 4.5mm to allow for use with a center punch tool. With the holes marked, it's a simple matter of drilling thru-holes for the M10-1.5 bolts or threaded fasteners required. I used a drill press to make mine. I had a piece of 5/8" bar stock on hand, a ½" piece is probably stiff enough. Here is an example of a parts list that would work: 1x Plate: https://www.mcmaster.com/8910K5-9143K48/ 6x M10-1.5 Threaded Rods: https://www.mcmaster.com/99055A321/ 10x M10-1.5 Nuts: https://www.mcmaster.com/97765A130/ I used a threaded rod to align a 32mm OD socket on the lower mainshaft (I reckon any socket with a 30-33mm outer diameter would work). On the upper input shaft, I used a stack of washers with a 1.5" OD (38mm) sitting on an M10 nut. Note that the upper and lower shafts are of different depth. My print time on a Prusa Mini+ was 1.5 hours, using 42g of PLA. Reassembly: To get the case back together, you'll need a fine pitch large diameter thread. These can be hard to source, but luckily, I found Caterpillar uses these threads on readily available affordable fasteners.
