I needed a new phone phone mounting solution in my trusty A3 Sportback. I had been using a Celly vent-mounted magnetic holder, but this ultimately caused damage to the vanes of the air vent, so I designed this ‘plug-and-stem' holder to fit one of the empty switch positions in the central dashboard above the radio (see picture). A small printed adapter washer allows me to use the business-end of the magnetic mount with the new holder. I replaced the screw of the Celly mount with a slightly longer one that screws in through the back of the ‘plug’ holder to keep everything together. The design could be more sophisticated of course, but I just needed something simple that worked and didn't consume too much time in the making! The Fusion360 model file is posted in case someone wants to adapt the design. I printed in PETG but PLA would work just as well. Enjoy!
